Annual Community Christmas Party

The annual Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) Community Christmas party took place on Dec. 14, 2018, at Potawatomi Carter Casino Hotel (PCCH) and was packed with wall-to- wall community members and children. This is always a highly-anticipated event as was evident by the hundreds of people who attended.

Opioid Campaign Kick-Off

The Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) community and the Forest County Sheriff’s Department have come together on a significant issue that has been affecting the county, the state of Wisconsin and has, in fact, been an issue across the entire country: the fight against the opioid epidemic.

4th Annual Repatriation Conference

The 4th Annual Repatriation Conference was held in Milwaukee at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino (PHC) Nov. 13-15, 2018. This conference is organized by the Association on American Indian Affairs (AAIA) and has had quite an impressive turnout each year since its inception with approximately 50 tribes represented!

This year’s elections took place on Nov. 3, 2018, and positions for the taking were Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary for the Forest County Potawatomi (FCP).

FCP Executive Council Meets with County Intergovernmental Relations Committee

A first-of-its-kind meeting between the Potawatomi Executive Council and the Forest County Intergovernmental Relations Committee was held Oct. 9, at the Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) Executive Building. Both parties agreed that it was the first meeting of this kind and that going forward they should meet monthly.

2nd Annual FILM Festival Held

The second annual Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) FILM Festival was held Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at the FCP Executive Building. FILM Coordinator David Herkert served as emcee for the event and warmly welcomed the 60+ people in attendance. He also encouraged the crowd to help themselves to popcorn and candy before the screenings got underway.

September 12, 2018, was a very special day for the Forest County Potawatomi (FCP) tribe as a community: It was the day two highly-respected FCP elders from the community launched their new book. Titled “Wete Yathmownen, Real Stories: Potawatomi Oral History” was written and compiled by Jim Thunder Sr. (Bemwetek) and Mary Jane Thunder (Wabmigo). This day was also the launching and celebration for the book being made available to the public.

25th Annual Meno Keno Ma Ge Wen Powwow

What a PERFECT weekend for this year’s 25th annual Meno Keno Ma Ge Wen Powwow which was held on August 25-26, 2018, at the Ka Kew Se Gathering Grounds (Carter Powwow Arboretum).

The estimated registration for this year’s 25th Annual Potawatomi Gathering was around 2,300 members from each of the nine Potawatomi Bands. The event was held this year in Mayetta, Kan., home of the Prairie Band Potawatomi (PBP) during the week of July 29 – Aug. 5, 2018.
