CARMELITE SISTERS OF THE DIVINE HEART OF JESUS OF WI

Wauwatosa, WI – After forming in southwestern Wisconsin over 100 years ago, this organization’s goal has been to empower women with intellectual and developmental disabilities to fully experience life. They achieve this by providing family-style semi-independent residential living with on-site support staff. Daily programs that are offered seven days a week are: group activities, art/music, employment training, church services, and field trips.

FAMILY PROMISE OF OZAUKEE COUNTY

Port Washington, WI – Family Promise of Ozaukee County has committed itself to connecting individuals and families facing a housing crisis with shelter and resources. Because of the Covid crisis, their church-based shelter program was dismantled; consequently, it inspired them to open a permanent shelter this year called Portlight. In addition to providing hot meals and shelter, they also offer mentoring and educational programming, rental assistance, credit counseling, health insurance options, and energy assistance.

HOSPITALITY CENTER

Racine, WI – This organization is unique in that it’s Racine’s only daytime emergency meal site that serves those who are homeless, disabled, and living with mental health challenges. In addition to a hot breakfast/ lunch every day, they also offer a monthly laundry program, free haircuts, support groups, free clothing, community resources, and spiritual support. Their mission is to provide a center that encourages hope, dignity, and a shared sense of community.

REPAIRERS OF THE BREACH

Milwaukee, WI – Repairers of the Breach works to combat homelessness and is recognized as Milwaukee’s first daytime homeless resource center in 1994. They do this by offering life-sustaining, and self-restoring programs and services so that the homeless can work towards permanent self-reliability. Targeted resources are mental health counseling, teen advocacy, housing assistance, and support services for victims of sexual assault.

FAMILY PROMISE OF WAUKESHA

Waukesha, WI – Family Promise of Waukesha has not only worked to help families experiencing homelessness, but also regain and retain their independence. Their approach to accomplishing this is twofold: First, they have utilized a community-based response comprising of volunteers and facilities of 28 Waukesha County congregations. Secondly, they offer a transitional housing program in which families are offered the opportunity to work on obstacles that make it difficult to maintain long-term housing.

VARIETY-THE CHILDRENS CHARITY OF WI

Elm Grove, WI – Since 1935, this charity has been dedicated to enriching the lives of children throughout Wisconsin with developmental or physical special needs and their families. They do this by initiating year-round events and activities that provide children opportunities to foster positive emotional/physical health and build confidence and self-esteem. Some examples are zoo outings, attending professional sporting events, indoor water parks, and more.
